SOUTHBOUND
Sunset at the spa :)
Hello,
We drove back down to Spain today, and I snoozed most of the way, listening to several episodes of Elizabeth Day's brilliant podcast, How To Fail. And I wrote a little poem on my phone.
There'd been heavy rain and flooding around Montpellier yesterday; we saw a lot of areas around the motorway underwater, and I felt sorry for people who might have had water in their houses or businesses. Being flooded is bad anytime, but when it's cold it's even worse. It's also rained a lot here, near Girona, this week, which is good because it's been really dry since the spring. I do hope it clears up a bit over the next few days, especially for my son, Greg, who is with us this week.
Ooh, and I sold a poetry book in a pretty little boutique in a tiny Swiss village today! I'd signed a few copies a while ago when the owner offered to put them on display there for me. It made me happy to know a lady shopping for clothes had also picked up Illicit Croissants At Dawn!
Here is the little poem I wrote in the car:
SOUTHBOUND
Southbound,
my heart smiles,
my pulse quickens,
Cypress trees point out possibilities.
The slate sky gleams silver.
Glimpsing blue filigree,
I glow.
Here is a gorgeous snippet from The Messiah! I loved belting it out in high school with Carolien and Bettina!
