THE ELUSIVE ART OF MULTITASKING

Hello!

The rain in Spain stays mainly in the Catalunya plain, or so it seems. It’s bucketing! My daughter and her husband are going to the Dali museum in Figueres, my husband has gone to whack some balls at the driving range, and I’m sitting on my tuffet like Little Miss Muffet, working on my novel.

And writing to you.

I’ve also started making another shawl in fifty shades of pink, because pink makes me happy. I always have to follow the instructions for the initial half-magic circle; for some reason I can never remember how to do it and always feel like an uncoordinated twit when it takes me several tries to get it right. Anyway, once I get beyond the (semi) magic-circle it’s pretty smooth hooking, which means I can do it without much brain engagement, which is why I like making shawls. Also, you can never have too many shawls. And if suddenly you do, they make great gifts.

In other artistic news, I recently saw someone silk-painting on Instagram. I did a lot of silk painting…three decades ago, before my kids were born. I loved it! I loved the bright colours, the meditative process of painting, and the joy of working with different types of silks. Of course, I made loads of scarves. But I also made quite a few wall-hangings for my babies’ rooms. The only thing I didn’t enjoy about silk painting was making the guta, which is what is  used to draw a pattern on the silk. Well, it now seems that you can buy ready-made guty! So who knows, I may delve back into silk-painting. In my spare time!

Haha..

Why can’t we multi-task while making art? Why can’t I dictate my book while painting and crocheting my shawl, and at the same time make a dent in my Himalayan-high pile of unread books? While also tidying my clothes cupboard which currently looks like a naughty adolescent’s. So I might have to invite my friend Carolien over for a week. She loves tidying up and is brilliant at organizing things! She’s also lots of fun, too, obviously.

Speaking of all things artistic, did you see that Chapter Three of Just Like A Movie dropped on The Empress’ Substack yesterday? I’m adding it here, now (NB: on my Substack, please go and follow me there) but if you haven’t read the first two chapters you might – perhaps – let your fingers walk you over to The Empress. I hope you enjoy reading! I’m excited to take you with me on this adventure with Empress Editions, and to share each stage with you.

CABIN CREW; PREPARE FOR ROMANCE!

Have a good Sunday,

With love and gratitude,

Francesca xx
